Leave Benefits
Madison County Schools follows leave policies as outlined in the Benefits and Employment Policy Manual published by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Some policies in the above referenced manual may be altered by local policy. The information provided on this website is intended to provide a general summary of benefits available to traditional public school personnel. It is not intended to take the place of existing general statutes, regulations or adopted policy.
Leave Type
Benefits, including leave, are typically earned by full-time and permanent part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per workweek.
Full-time permanent employees work a minimum of 30 hours each workweek and must be enrolled in the Retirement System and are eligible for enrollment in the employer-paid State Health Plan.
Permanent part-time employees as defined here means employees who work a minimun of 20 hours but less than 30 hours each workweek. Permanent part-time employees are typically eligible to earn leave and may enroll in the State Health Plan on a self-paid basis.
Temporary part-time employees as defined here means an interim employee who will be employed less than six full pay periods or an employee whose regular workweek is less than 20 hours per week. No benefits are available.
Substitute employee means a person who fills-in for another employee. No benefits are available.
