Mars Hill Elementary School

Accelerated Reader

Mars Hill Elementary School encourages student reading with Accelerated Reader (AR).  AR is a computerized program using a selected list of books.  The student chooses an appropriate reading level book.  After reading this book, the student goes to the computer to take a test. Points are then awarded to the student for correctly answered questions.  As points accumulate, a variety of incentives are provided to motivate reading.  With more than 6,500 book titles from which to choose, there's always a challenge and something exciting to read!

To check to see if Mars Hill School has an AR test for a book, click on the box below for the beginning letter of the first word in the title.  If the book's title begins with the word "The" or "A", go by the second word in the title.

The AR point goals by Grade level is as follows: KG-10pts, 1st-20pts, 2nd-60pts, 3rd-70pts, 4th-80pts, 5th-100pts.

If the students reach their 1/2 year goal, which is half of the year goal, the reward is an age appropriate movie and pizza at Asheville Pizza Co. in December. If the students reach their year-end goal the reward is a swimming party at the Mars Hill Recreation Park outdoor pool after the EOG testing is completed. These field trips will be split up in two days with K-2 grouped together and 3-5 grouped together.
